Georgie Wedge - Riverside Studios

Navigating the dating world is difficult and this one-woman comic show portrays the dating world from a female perspective. Georgie Wedge portrays a charming and hilarious character.

Who are you in your girl friendship group? Married, a new mother, flashy job or wild single gal pal? This show is all about the single girly telling her friends wild London dating fables. Georgie Wedge shows an alluring, chaotic and hilarious character. Sweeping from love interest to tinder date and swiping left constantly... until her last minute dating plans lands her shingles! Told through rhyme and in a stand-up form. The audience are her peers. This is a 50-minute piece that is relatable, fun and clever.
Wedge is fantastic at charming the audience and comic timing. Her character is witty and expressive. However, it would have been beneficial to see a more emotive side or character development. It would have been interesting to see more moments of her in the coffee shop and reactions to her friends, then you could get a deeper understanding of her character. She transitions from scene to scene well, by using items or moving to different areas of the stage to show a new setting. There is a moment she used her coat as a duvet sheet; to show she is in a bed. This is clever, because it shows how uncomfortable you may feel in someone else's bed. The sound of the coat and how she moves it reminds the audience of this. She has a lot of energy and considering movement and planning the pace would help the piece reach a climax... pardon the pun.
It's short and sweet! The poetic writing is a treat, it would be interesting to see sections that don't rhyme and more vulnerable. You find you want to get inside the mind of her character and see more characterisation. There is close attention to detail and she ensures to follow her well written script and to not miss a beat and this loses the naturalistic element of her character. This girl is relatable, gives a bit of female power and it would be great to see more work from her!
