Sadler's Wells Peacock

The Christmas period has started, and The Snowman has returned to the Peacock stage for the 28th year. This show is what Christmas is all about, for the WHOLE family.

This year, I returned to the Peacock to watch The Snowman for the 2nd time. This show never fails to light the Christmas spark in me. I was so happy to share this experience with my mum this year; it was her first time, and it is a show that is best shared with loved ones. If you want to know my thoughts on the show, CLICK HERE to read my review from last year.

'The Snowman' is a wonderful adventure and only 1 hour and 50 minutes, including a 20-minute interval. This is a perfect, short and sweet show for children to stay entertained, as it isn't too long for them! There are so many colourful scenes filled with different characters and fun settings, which makes it an easy watch. It is indeed an adaptation of the family favourite story 'The Snowman', the 1978 Raymond Briggs picture book. This was adapted into the cartoon film we all know and love, which was released in 1982. This does give so much more to the story, new characters, different adventures and a score that will have you beaming with joy. It's impossible not to fall in love with the show and want to share it with your nearest and dearest. This is what Christmas is all about.

It's no surprise that this is the 28th year it's returned to a London stage. The Birmingham Rep's show is the longest-running Christmas show in the West End. Four creatives brought this show to life! Ruari Murchison created the design, Robert North choreographed the vibrant sequences, Tim Mitchell is the lighting designer, and it is all directed by Bill Alexander. This is a show you must add to your festive traditions, because being able to relive this theatre treasure every year and share it with more loved ones will keep the spark of this glorious show alive. Every year, 42 people are put together to put 'The Snowman' on its feet and back in front of wide audiences. 17 energetic dancers, a team of 20 stage crew and 5 musicians. Without them, this show would not be where it is in the present day. So much love goes into this show every year, and it brings the picture book to life. I cannot describe in enough detail how delightful the experience of this show is.

This year, I was lucky enough to go backstage to have a closer look at the stage, and I even saw a selection of the 265 props used in the show. This was a core memory and was shared with my mum!

Don't worry, you can take a memoir home with you, as there is a divine selection of Snowman merch. Ranging from Christmas decorations, beanie toys of characters, and even the picture book. So you can take home a bit of the magic or get a gift for a family member. I got a Snowman last year, and this year I got the Snow dog, so my Snowman has a festive friend. I will for sure be back again next year and I'll find another loved one to share this experience with. Next year it'll be just before my Christmas wedding! What better way to kick off the festive season, make sure to catch this show, it is real Christmas magic and Father Christmas is also in the cast!
